About Louise

Louise Claire Lovell grew up in Sussex and studied Illustration and Graphic Design at Brighton University, later continuing her education at Goldsmiths College, London.
She moved to Bologna, Italy, where she began her career as an illustrator for various publishers, including Poseidonia, Pendragon Books, and Tony Potter Publishing. During this time, she also designed catalogues and posters for children’s book festivals and led illustration workshops.
Louise has collaborated with architects on trompe l’oeil murals and worked on private commissions to decorate furniture, create reproductions of Old Masters and contribute to architectural restoration projects.
In 2005, she began teaching Art at the International School of Padua. She now works as a freelance illustrator, artist and tutor. Her latest works were recently exhibited in the Museo MATeL in Lozzo di Cadore.
Louise’s artistic practice spans a wide range of media, including oil, acrylics, gouache, coloured pencil, watercolour, and digital art. Inspired by the natural world – birds, animals, plants and flowers – she explores minute details of texture, pattern and form, often enlarging them to reveal overlooked beauty. Her passion for pattern and textiles is evident in the intricate compositions of her illustrations and fine art.
